Our Father, Our Teacher, Our Guide

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”

Psalm 32:8 (NKJV)

What an amazing promise this is! To be instructed and taught by the greatest Teacher of all time is a privilege many of us take too lightly.

As a teacher, I can tell you immediately how blessed we are to receive and accept this Word. You see, beloved, anyone can give instructions, but many times, the instructions can be unclear, vague, or misunderstood.

If an explanation follows the instruction, especially if a practical example follows, the concept can be more easily grasped. However, our Heavenly Father doesn’t stop with instructions, explanations, or examples. He completes the process by providing guidance.

Do you remember that excellent teacher you had back in grade school? Yes, the one who would stand beside or behind your seat and take you through the concept step by step. When you mastered what was being taught, that teacher’s nod of approval, their smile, or pat on the back made you feel like you had just conquered Mount Everest!

That’s what the promise above means to those of us who strive each and every day to walk in the light of God’s Word. Sometimes it’s challenging, and we want to give up, but He is always there, right beside us, encouraging us. His Holy Spirit gives us the strength, wisdom, and comfort to continue doing His Will and to achieve His Purpose for our lives.

Like the learner who has to erase a mistake and start again, we often have to repent and start afresh, but our Father’s grace is our constant companion. Psalm 25:8-10 (NKJV) reads, “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His Way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.”

The examples in Scripture of the men and women who lived purposeful lives in Him, as well as those who were disobedient and fell by the wayside, shine the light for us to be guided throughout our own lives. Today, with such knowledge and His Help, let’s prove ourselves to be excellent learners under His guidance. Amen.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today we are grateful for Your Word. Please help us to remember that all Scripture is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness. Help us to use them for Your glory and honour, and for our good. Amen.
